Phone Won't Turn On? Here's What's Wrong

Symptom Diagnosis

A phone that won't turn on is one of the most stressful device problems — especially when you don't know why. Here's how to diagnose the cause and what the fix looks like.

Step 1 — Check If the Battery Is Dead

Plug into charger and wait 15 minutes before trying to power on.
Look for a charging indicator on screen (even a dim one).
Try a different charging cable and adapter.
If charging indicator appears → battery was just flat. If not, keep reading.

Step 2 — Check for Water Damage

Did the phone get wet recently, even briefly?
Check SIM tray — many phones have a water indicator that turns pink/red.
Water causes short circuits that prevent startup — needs ultrasonic cleaning and component inspection.

Possible Causes & Repairs

Dead / swollen battery → Battery replacement (RM 180–600, 30–60 min)
Power IC failure → Power IC repair (RM 200–600, 1–2 days)
Water damage → Water damage repair (RM 200–800, 1–3 days)

What NOT to Do

Don't keep pressing the power button repeatedly — won't help and may cause further damage.
Don't put it in rice if water damaged — ineffective and wastes recovery time.
Don't charge overnight if the battery is swollen — fire risk.
Don't attempt to open the device yourself without proper tools.
